To bring the country’s rapidly growing freelancing sector under an institutional framework, the government has taken an initiative to register freelancers and issue ID cards (identity cards). To this end, a comprehensive digital platform has been developed for the National Freelancer Registration and ID Card Program.
The Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology has announced that the program will be officially launched on Tuesday (13 January).
Freelancers who come under this registration system will be able to use their ID cards to access banking services, loans and credit card facilities, financial incentives, as well as various government and private training programs and other benefits more easily.
According to a press release from the ministry, the vulnerability assessment and penetration testing of the digital platform for the country’s first National Freelancer Registration and ID Card Program—freelancers.gov.bd—have been successfully completed. This ensures the platform’s security and technological capability.
As a result of this initiative, the ministry expects stronger connections between freelancers, banks, government institutions, and the private sector, which will help take the country’s digital economy to a new level.
The authorities also stated that this initiative is being considered a strategic national effort to promote youth self-employment, earn foreign currency, and expand opportunities for technology-based employment.
