The Phantom line has always played host to Tecno’s flagship devices. The term “flagship” is used rather loosely here, as while said devices don’t quite match up to premium phones from bigger companies, they are, after all, the cream of Tecno’s crop. The newest device in the series is the Tecno Phantom X that was launched a few hours ago.
The Tecno Phantom X sports a 6.7-inch FHD+ 90 Hz AMOLED. Again, not quite premium but solid nonetheless. Under the display is a fingerprint reader advertised as being able to unlock the device in 0.4 seconds. At the top of the display is a dual punch-hole a la Galaxy S10+, albeit on the left side.
Camera-wise, the Phantom X comes out swinging. On paper, at least. It sports a 50 MP 1/1.3-inch main camera, with a 1.2µm native pixel size. Aiding that is a 13 MP 2x telephoto lens that serves as a portrait camera, and an 8 MP ultra-wide-angle camera. On the front are two cameras: a 48 MP shooter, and an 8 MP ultra-wide-angle shooter.
Under the hood of the Phantom X is a MediaTek Helio G95, rather disappointing compared to the decent camera hardware. Still, the Helio G95 offers performance on par with the Snapdragon 720G or thereabouts. In addition is up to 8GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Supplying juice is a 4700 mAh battery, with 33 W said to be able to take the phone from 0% to 70% in 30 minutes.
Pricing and availability details are currently unknown but we’ll be sure to keep you updated. It’s expected that Tecno will sell this device in its biggest markets like Nigeria, however.
