Samsung’s new One UI 8.5 introduces a Glassmorphic design to the Screen Recorder UI. It’s a major departure from the conventional interface that was significantly overhauled in the One UI 7.0 and One UI 8.0 earlier.
Screen Recorder in One UI 8.5
In the One UI 8.5 Screen Recording experience, the One UI 8.0’s opaque card has been replaced with a translucent surface that dynamically incorporates the underlying wallpaper colors through background blur.
This creates visual continuity with the system interface, though it does sacrifice some contrast compared to the solid background of its predecessor.
Toggle switches now feature Samsung’s signature blue accent color rather than generic grey, bringing the dialog in line with One UI’s broader design philosophy.
The audio recording options have been completely restructured.
One UI 8.0 presented three vertically-stacked radio buttons labeled “None,” “Media,” and “Media and mic” under a “Record sound” heading.
Samsung’s new One UI 8.5 converts this into a horizontal grid of icon-based cards under “Audio to record.” Each option now displays both an icon and a label, increasing the touch target size and improving appearance.
Partial screen recording
Inspired by Android 16, Galaxy’s One UI 8.5 upgrade brings the Partial screen recording feature. It allows you to select the area to record rather than recording the full screen view.
It allows you to seamlessly share the screen recording of a particular area on the screen. You won’t be needing post recording editing work before sharing or posting your screen recording.
The addition of recording area selection directly in the permission dialog is a practical improvement.
One UI 8.5’s screen recorder dialog represents a functional upgrade wrapped in a visual treatment. This redesign addresses legitimate usability issues. The translucency serves Samsung’s broader design ambitions at a minor cost to accessibility.
