Huawei is allegedly testing a multi-focal length periscope camera for its next flagship – Pura 80. The smartphone lineup will debut next year probably in Q2. Ahead of that, it has started showing up in leaks and rumors for its high-end specifications.
The Chinese tech giant has just wrapped up the Mate 70 series launch event. It amazed consumers with AI features and powerful hardware capabilities of the Mate 70 models. Now the company has started working on the next top-end handsets.
DigitalChatStation says that Huawei is testing a multi-focal length periscope camera for the Pura 80 series. The upcoming lineup is codenamed HL and is in the making.
The leak further reveals that the telephoto lens is quite large. Other details of this periscope camera are still unknown. Although we may hit them in the coming days.
What is a multi-focal length periscope?
A multi-focal length periscope camera is an advanced sensor that requires prisms and mirrors. There’s a parallelogram prism that allows the lens to switch between a wide-angle and telephoto sensor. It provides a longer focal length and higher optical zoom without occupying more space or making the device thicker.
The multi-focal length periscope slightly differs from the normal periscope camera. It offers a wider range of zoom options. Also, the former can focus on nearby as well as distant subjects but the latter offers a limited field of view to users.
Multi-focal length periscopes are also called floating periscope cameras as they enable the sensor assembly to move and stabilize as per the image requirement. One can easily switch between 3x, 5x, or 10x optical zoom.
Pura 70 Ultra
Huawei has also used a similar periscope lens for the Pura 70 Ultra handset. The device features a triple-cam setup on the back with a 50MP (f/1.6-f/4.0) primary lens, a 40MP ultrawide shooter, and a 50MP periscope telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom.
This time, the company might adopt a new and more advanced periscope lens for the Pura 80 series. Huawei hasn’t confirmed this matter yet. Though we may soon discover more information regarding the upcoming flagship lineup.
