Huawei Watch 4 to bring Satellite SMS feature

We’re in March and Huawei is preparing to launch a bunch of new wearables including the upcoming Huawei Watch 4 which could feature powerful satellite SMS capability.

According to the tipster Classmateguan, a Huawei smartwatch could come with a brand new capability of satellite communication and sending an SMS over this satellite feature. The tipster has not confirmed that device name but it would be the new Huawei Watch 4 lineup.

How? There are a number of factors that supports this launch theory including the launch time. The Watch 3 series was unveiled in 2021 and it’s the only smartwatch to feature LTE connectivity.

On the other hand, Huawei Watch GT 4 is also on the radar and a contender coming this month. However, the GT series is now more like a sports watch rather than a main protagonist. So, Huawei Watch 4 series is likely to be the first to bring a satellite communication-powered SMS reply feature.

What is satellite communication?

Huawei is the first company in the world to launch satellite communication in Huawei Mate 50 series. With this feature, the user can send an SMS to a recipient via satellite and it doesn’t require a mobile network.

However, the first generation of Huawei satellite communication features only supported one-way SMS. It means, the user can only send an SMS and won’t receive it. Speaking of which, Huawei Watch 4 could equip such functionality.

Currently, Huawei has not confirmed such a smartwatch for the upcoming launch event. If Huawei is planning on something new like this, it is highly likely to announce it alongside the Huawei P60 series this month.

Until then, let’s take a look at the past Watch 3 series.
