QUALCOMM SNAPDRAGON 898 GPU PERFORMANCE FAR EXCEED EXPECTATIONS

Qualcomm will officially release the Snapdragon 898 SoC later this year. This chip will likely be the preferred choice for many 2022 Android flagships. The GPU of Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 is Adreno 730. According to @IceUniverse, the GPU performance of Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 is too strong. He claims that the performance and energy efficiency of this chip far exceed expectations.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 898

The GPU level of Qualcomm Snapdragon has always been top of the Android camp. At the start of the 5G era, Qualcomm switched to the Andreno 6 series GPU. Currently, the strongest Andreano GPU is the Andreno 660 on the Snapdragon 888. The newly upgraded Adreno 660 GPU has a performance increase of up to 35%. This can provide a variable resolution rendering function comparable to that of a PC. It also comes with a 40% reduction in rendering pixels and a 30% increase in game performance. This is not very common for a smartphone GPU.

Today, Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 898 integrates Adreno 730 GPU. It is expected that the performance will be greatly improved. Furthermore, the game performance is bound to be more eye-catching.

SNAPDRAGON 898 GPU RUNNING SCORE LAGS BEHIND EXYNOS 2200 & BIONIC A15

Recent information shows the GPU running scores of the Snapdragon 898 on GFXBench. The scores of the GPU include 158.4FPS in the Manhattan 3.1 scene, 112.7FPS in the Aztec ruins (Normal), and 43.1FPS in the Aztec ruins (High).

From the latest exposure, the GPU of the Snapdragon 898 is not as good as Apple A15 and Samsung Exynos 2200 engineering models. The Adreno GPU thermal management stability is better, and the continuous performance output is better than the first two, that is, the frequency reduction under high load is not serious. The Exynos 2200 has shrunk by about 25%, the Apple A15 has shrunk by 35%, and the Snapdragon 898 is currently 20%.

SNAPDRAGON 898 BEATS BIONIC A14 & SD888

Back to the peak performance, take Manhattan 3.1 as an example. Apple A14 currently ranks first with 137FPS, while Snapdragon 888 only has 117FPS. In other words, the initial running score of the Snapdragon 898 GPU suppresses the Bionic A14. Relative to the previous Snapdragon 888, it has an increase of over 35%. In the Aztec Ruins (Normal), Snapdragon 898 is 15% higher than Bionic A14 and 35% higher than Snapdragon 888.

In the GFXBench platform test, the average frame rate of the Manhattan 3.1 project for Exynos 2200 GPU is 170.7 fps. Furthermore, in the Aztec Ruins test project, Exynos 2200 scores were significantly higher than the Bionic A14 processor. This means the chip will have a GPU performance that is comparable to the Bionic A15 and Snapdragon 898. This will be a great feat for Samsung. In time past, Samsung’s flagship chip is usually miles behind the competition.
