Xiaomi has teamed up with China Gold and the China Academy of Arts to turn its cheap and cheerful Mi Band activity trackers into fabulous luxury items. Owners of the Mi Band 4, 5, 6, or 7 can, for the most part, bling out their wearable with gold and diamond accessories. A fully decked-out Mi Band 6 NFC costs 2,529 yuan (~US$375).
Xiaomi is now offering fans of its Mi Band range the opportunity to spruce up the unassuming devices with a touch of gold and a few diamonds here and there. As spotted on the company’s crowdfunded YouPin site by XiaomiAdictos, the customer can browse through numerous options for making their Mi Band stand out from the crowd. There are choices for those who own a Mi Band 4, Mi Band 5, or Mi Band 6, and there are even some gold and diamond enhancements available for the brand-new Xiaomi Mi Band 7.
The most-expensive choice currently listed is for the Mi Band 6 NFC wearable. For a currently discounted price of 2,529 yuan (~US$375), shoppers can buy the upgraded activity tracker that comes with an “eight-sided mighty flying pig gold shell set”, with the pig being a symbol of luck and fortune in China. In addition, there is a “flying tiger gold diamond buckle” and a “flying pig dream foot gold buckle” to make sure the Mi Band 6 looks its best. It appears the actual Xiaomi Mi Band device is also included in this particular deal, which as a package apparently usually costs 2,999 yuan (~US$444).
There are many other options, with the cheapest gold buckle starting at just 79 yuan (US$12). Unsurprisingly, the more gold and diamonds the user wants in the buckle, the higher the cost, with the most-expensive “mechanical tiger” buckle packing in a whole 2 g (0.07 oz) of gold for 1,869 yuan (US$277). The Xiaomi Mi Band “Gold Collection” is currently restricted to shoppers in China, but it may eventually crop up on reseller sites such as AliExpress in the future.
