Huawei Pura 80 Ultra

Huawei’s Pura 80 Ultra is a smartphone for people who mostly use theirs for documenting the world around them. “We’ve developed an amazing camera that also happens to be a smartphone,” says Andreas Zimmer, Huawei’s head of product in Europe. Launched in July and featuring an industry-first switchable dual telephoto camera, the Pura 80 Ultra mimics the mechanics of a digital camera in miniature. Its two lenses offer 3.7x and 9.4x magnification for sharper shots, its one-inch sensor captures more light, and it can distinguish 1.5 million colors. The result? Richly detailed, vibrantly colored photos and videos in any lighting.

The Figure 03 is a humanoid robot with a lofty goal. The company that makes it, Figure AI, wants to build a machine in the form of a human being, and put the bots to work across the global economy—including in homes. Upon its launch this October, the Figure 03 was capable of doing some domestic tasks like folding clothes and loading a dishwasher, but not without help (it can load the machine, but a human needs to start the wash and help if it drops something). Still, the company has embarked on a mass data collection drive to train the robots’ Helix neural network to better complete more types of tasks. CEO Brett Adcock says robotics is on a similar curve to digital AI—suggesting that big capability jumps are coming. He aims to have the Figure 03 in select homes next year.

UV printing uses ultraviolet light to quickly dry special ink on materials like metal, wood, and acrylic. This once complicated process is no longer exclusive to industrial settings, thanks to the largest online crowdfunding campaign in history. EufyMake raised nearly $47 million to develop the world’s first at-home UV printer, which is 90% smaller than traditional UV printers and can print 3D textures on over 300 materials. The product offers users millions of design templates to customize. “The E1 enables hobbyists, small business owners, and entrepreneurs to personalize everyday items or even launch side ventures,” says Frank Zhu of Anker Innovations, which owns eufy.

The catch-22 of documenting life’s moments is that you have to step out of those moments to capture them. Not with the HOVERAir X1 PROMAX, an action camera that’s small enough to slip in a pocket. The device flies alongside users as they carve down a ski slope or run across a ridgeline, shooting 8k video and tracking them using AI. Built-in sensors help avoid collisions, but it’s also made from an aerospace-grade material that’s flexible and tough enough to survive an inevitable crash.
